In this essay I will be mainly describing DC circuits wired in series, parallel, and series-parallel. In a DC series circuit the components are all wired together from end to end with the same amount of current flowing through each component. In a simple series circuit all that is required is a power source (battery), conductor, and a resistor.

A simple series circuit definition is a current loop with components arranged one after another. Parallel circuits have multiple paths, with different components on each. You can calculate the total resistance or capacitance in both types of circuit easily.

The major disadvantage of parallel circuits as compared to series circuits is that the power remains at the same voltage as the voltage of a single power source. Other disadvantages include the split of an energy source across the entire circuit, and lower resistance.
